New Music

So I thought I'd write about my music real quick before I go.
There are two artists that I find myself playing on loop.
1. Imagine Dragons- this band is most know for their song It's Time, which came out recently.  Their whole album is pretty new though.  Anyways, their music just makes me happy. :) It's really unique.  I guess they would be considered alternative.
2. Gavin DeGraw- I've always liked him, but lately I've been playing a lot of his music.  Even though it's pop, it is the really meaningless pop that a lot of songs are turning into.  I like that.

Top 10 Books

So I decided that for my first real blog I would give you a list of my top 10 books.

#1. Watership Down - Richard Adams: I don't know what it is about this book, but I always seem to find myself picking it up to read again.  It is beautifully written, and the characters, even though they're rabbits, are very well written, and you know a lot about each one.  It's 481 pages long, but I can read it in about 2 or 3 days if I really want to.  If you don't know what it's about, I'll try to summarize it.  Basically, these rabbits have to run away from their warren because it is being destroyed, and they're trying to find a new home, but they're all bucks so they also have to find does along the way.  It may seem like a little kid book, but there is a good dose of death, fighting, and wild chases.  I would recommend it to anyone.

#2. Between Shades of Gray- Ruta Sepetys: This book was a close second.  I literally could not put this book down when I read it.  The main character, Lina, is written very well, as well as all the other characters, from great to small.  It is set in 1941, and Lina and her family are arrested by the Soviet secret police, and she, along with hundreds of others, are shipped all the way from Lithuania to Siberia,  stopping along the way to work in several different labor camps.  There is also a little romance in it, so there is a little something for everyone.

#3. The Hunger Games- Suzanne Collins: Haha, I know everyone knows about this book, so I'm not even going to describe it.  I WOULD like to say that I read this trilogy before they announced the movie was coming out.  I think I read the first one like December of 2010.  This first one is my favorite, Catching Fire was ok, I didn't really like Mockingjay.

#4. Just Listen- Sarah Dessen: Most of you have probably heard of Sarah Dessen, she's pretty popular, and you'll probably be seeing her name more on this blog; she is definitely one of my favorite authors.  Her characters are very realisitc, and I think she writes about problems that a lot of girls can relate to.  I am sad to say that I've only read four of her books, but I plan on reading all of them.  Just Listen is about this girl who is having family problems and doesn't really have any friends, and then one day she meets Owen, who is this music obsessed guy who always tells the truth, and Annabel (the girl) has to listen to herself and find who she is, and I think it is a very good book about being honest with yourself and finding who you truly are.

#5. Eragon- Christopher Paolini: First off, I read this book sooo long ago.  I think I was like ten when I read it, but I remember loving it.  It's just one of those good fantasy novels about dragons and evil kings and all that good stuff.  I read all four in the series, but out of the others I really only liked Eldest, the second one.  The last two were kind of slow going.

#6. Shiver- Maggie Stiefvater: This is one of those medium length, easy read books (392 pages).  It's about werewolves, and when I picked up this book I was a little skeptical, because I was afraid it'd be just another one of "those" books. But Shiver has a unique twist to it, and it really captured my attention.  There are these wolves that live in a small wooded area, and this girl Grace is obsessed with them, but the wolves are actually werewolves.  But instead of the moon changing them, the cold changes them. So when it's hot enough the wolves are human, but then when it starts getting too cold they turn.  I thought it was a really cool concept.  I would recommend it to everyone. Oh, and there are two others in this series; Linger and Forever.

#7. Along for the Ride- Sarah Dessen: Quich summary-  Auden's parents are divorced and she goes to the beach to live with her dad for the summer, and she doesn't really sleep well so she always explores town at night with this guy, Eli, and she meets new friends, and it's just a nice easy read.

#8. The Book Thief- Markus Zusak: I will admit, I really didn't think I would like this book when I first picked it up, and it is a slow read, but the meaning behind it is a very powerful one.  It is about Nazi Germany and a family who hides a Jew in their home.  The main character, Liesel, also steals books from Nazi book burnings, hence the name.  It is extremely sad a parts, and it is a bit long (539 pages), but I would say that you should read it, because it is a very moving book.

#9. The Name of the Star- Maureen Johnson: Basically Jack the Ripper is killing people in present day London.  I am slighty fasinated by Jack the Ripper (sounds creepy I know, I just think it's interesting that he was never caught), so I liked this book, and I like the main character a lot.  There is also a big twist that I wasn't really expecting at first.

#10. Matched- Ally Condie: This is a dystopian novel, which seem to be rising in popularity quickly, and I thought it was pretty good. Basially society matches you with who you'll marry so that people have the best traits, but Cassie is shown two guys.  Theres a ton a romance, so if you like that you should read it.

I'm leaving for a cruise tomorrow, so I won't be posting for two weeks, but I would REALLY appreciate if you could tell me what my next post should be when I get back :)
